Creative Arts

The arts are a source of inspiration and through exposure to both creative and performing arts children learn to express their emotions and thoughts. We aim to develop our pupils imagination and learn about other cultures through the education material we cover at Hillcrest Prep.

We enjoy a strong music department with over 120 children that participate in extra peripatetic music lessons making up a huge variety of instruments. Pupils work towards participating in choir festivals, the KAIIS Cantata, Young Musician of the Year, the St. Andrews Orchestral weekend and more. We have also established music clubs that rehearse every lunch hour, interested pupils join the brass band, woodwind ensemble, string ensemble, recorder club, junior or senior choirs. Pupils are also encouraged to take part in informal music afternoons for each year group, these provide upcoming musicians a fantastic forum to perform.

The Art and DT departments work with pupils from Year 3 to Year 8. Pupils take part in a variety of subjects for an hour each week.

Dramatic arts class is held each week for an hour, pupils from each year group participate. Pupils in each year group performs in a play and participates in a class assembly termly.  Hillcrest enters The Badminton Trophy for Drama, the Nairobi Verse Speaking Competition and holds internal competitions. The free reign to perform on stage is available to Year 3 to Year 8 pupils at the end of first term during the school’s Variety Show.
